A Place to Begin
If you are considering working together, you may have questions about what that may look like.
I know that deciding to do psychological work can take time. You may want space to think things through, understand what is involved, and consider whether it feels right for you.
Here, I have gathered the practical information you may need to make that decision. Take your time to read through it and see whether working together feels aligned.
YOUR FIRST SESSION
What To Expect
Our first session is an opportunity to explore what has brought you here, what you have already come to understand about yourself, and where you may feel you need help. I would have asked in advance to fill out an intake form that will detail certain aspects of what you are experiencing.
This will help me to initiate building an individual case profile.
We will begin with what feels most relevant to you. You do not need to arrive with a clear explanation of everything you are experiencing or know exactly what you want to work on.
I will ask questions; we will discuss a few things, and from there, I will build the bigger picture together with you. In this session, I help you understand the core of what is happening and what approach/es are relevant for you. I offer brief therapy in that moment.
By the end of the session, you should have a broad plan on how to move forward, together with some coping strategies/ or perhaps one strategy to help you in the interim.
This session is also an opportunity for you to get a sense of how I work and whether working together feels like a good fit. Feeling comfortable with a psychologist is essential to success in therapy.
This is where I would ask you to really take the time to reflect on the session and process it slowly. Your intuition/ sense of knowing will tell you if it's the right fit.
That feeling is important for both of us before moving forward.
